All Saints Service November 2, 2008 All Saints Day is the church's time for remembering and giving thanks for those who have lived and died in the faith – family members, loved ones, co-workers, neighbors and friends – who were models of Christ-like love for us. We celebrate the lives of those members, family and friends who have died in the last year by remembering them by name, and placing a rose on the altar in their memory. In early Christianity, the day on which an individual died was celebrated as his/her dies natalis, the "day of birth" into the divine world. If you have experienced a death of a loved one within the past year, you may not feel like celebrating this experience just yet, but perhaps you can see ways in which this has been a new birth. All Saints is a time to reflect on the gifts God has given you, including the love of God reflected through your loved one, blessings of friends and hope and faith in life everlasting. If you have lost someone, come to Sanctuary for prayer, a brief scriptural reflection, song, and remembrance. Please call the Pastoral Care office (214.523.2241) to place your loved one's name on our list for remembrance. |
