“Building Toward a Century of Change”

“Building Toward a Century of Change” is a series of large mission projects HPUMC is rolling out between now and HPUMC’s Centennial Celebration in 2016.

You’ve already seen Carpenters for Christ work to build dozens of homes; its goal is 100 homes built by 2016.  You’ve heard about the Costa Rica Orphanage (and you will continue to hear more), and you can read more about the St. Paul restoration in the November 28 Tower

Even more exciting, there will be additional initiatives that cross continents and focus on the issues of education, health, homelessness, orphans and church growth, proving that one church can make an immeasurable difference in the lives of its community, other communities, and its world.

More about the projects kicking off "Building Toward a Century of Change":
o Homelessness initiative – HPUMC has committed $350,000 to the city for the issue
o Perkins School of Theology expansion – HPUMC has committed $1.5 million for seminary education
o St. Paul Initiative –  HPUMC has committed $3 million.  November’s Wesley Hymn Festival raised $10,000-15,000 for this project.
See WFAA video about the project.
o Costa Rica Orphanage – 7 acres bought in Costa Rica toward a master plan that includes homes for the children, connection to a local church, the greatest Methodist preparatory school in all Central America, several trips have been made there already, including one especially powerful one with HPUMC youth.
o South Africa initiative – focus on Africa University, Vision Africa, Nothing But Nets meeting issues of education, health and church growth.
    o
Sanctuary Restoration – $7 million cap on this project.  Renovation should begin after Easter, with more details to follow.  Worship in the Sanctuary will not be disrupted.  The plan will include some, possibly all, of these components:
           o New Dobson organ
o Expansion of the choir loft to add 50-60% more seating
o Major acoustical work for music and the spoken word
           o HVAC work
           o New pews and flooring
o Updated Narthex, including new bathrooms

As we introduce additional initiatives, we’ll tell you who they are impacting and how you can be a part of these projects.
