The Walk to Emmaus is a 3-day weekend retreat for church members who would like to grow spiritually and build their faith and discipleship. It is sponsored by the Upper Room of the United Methodist Church (so it is mainstream theology). It is a short course on Christianity and is non-denominational, where lay and clergy speakers lead discussions and studies on topics such as Means of Grace, Discipleship, Priorities, Prevenient Grace, Justifying Grace, Piety, Changing our World, Sanctifying Grace, Perseverance, and other topics. It starts slow on Thursday night and quickly picks up steam and finishes strong Sunday evening. Once it gets going, it is an intense weekend (not a relaxing weekend), but yet renewing for most. The Dallas Emmaus Community offers both several men’s and women’s retreats in the North Texas area (and several more are available through the Denton Emmaus). There is a small fee for the accommodations and food. For almost all, it is a very meaningful religious weekend (full of prayer, meditation, fun, fellowship, study, special worship opportunities, daily communion, etc.). To attend the Walk, you must be sponsored by someone that has been on the Walk, and members of the HPUMC Emmaus community stand ready to sponsor you (all you have to do is ask). Several hundred members of our church have been on the Walk, so contact any one you know that has been on the Walk (or one of our HPUMC Emmaus Leadership Team listed below) about attending. You won’t regret it - it might change your life!
